Established in 2012, The Gut Centre has the most experience in using brain-gut therapies to treat functional gut disorders (FGDs) in Australia. We are proud to be the pioneers and leaders in our field, an area also known as psychogastroenterology. We are the first and leading clinic of its kind and have been successfully treating gut patients for more than 10yrs.

Our founder and director Dr Jim Kantidakis has more than 14years experience in treating brain-gut disorders and was the first Australian to travel and undergo training from leading Gastroenterologist, Prof Whorewell and the founding gut-directed hypnotherapy team in Manchester, in the UK. His passion in the area of gastroenterology inspired him to develop and train his own team of expert practitioners under ‘The Gut Centre’.
Dr Kantidakis is also currently involved with St. Vincent’s Hospital (Melbourne) Functional Gut Clinic as the Clinical Psychologist and gut-directed Hypnotherapist on staff. He has strong links with world leading Gastroenterologists in Australia and the United States and has travelled to the US where he visited GI clinics across six states exploring the latest developments in Psychogastroenterology research and practice.
Dr Kantidakis has also been invited to present at several gastrointestinal conferences and events and hosts the Talking Gut with Dr Jim Kantidakis Podcast , where he talks with world leaders in gastroenterology and related systems.

Dr Kantidakis was involved in studies conducted at St. Vincents Hospital Functional Gut Clinic and published in The Lancet, Gastroenterology and hepatology (2020) and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology (2021), clearly highlight the effectiveness of incorporating a multidisciplinary team in the treatment of Functional Gut Disorders.
